PP sweep to huge majority in the local election of Caravaca de la Cruz
A record number of votes seals the deal for 4 more years of PP government in Caravaca
The results of the municipal elections which were held throughout Spain on Sunday May 28 have shown a pronounced general swing in favour of the PP and Vox parties, and in Caravaca de la Cruz this contributed towards the PP gaining an overwhelming overall majority for the four years of the next legislature.
Of the 21 seats available on the council as many as 15 were claimed by the PP, six more than in 2019, while the number of PSOE councillors has been halved from 10 to 5. The only other seat was won by Vox, while Ciudadanos disappear from the Town Hall having not presented a candidate in the 2023 election.
So startling was the swing towards the PP in Caravaca that the number of votes received by Mayor José Francisco García’s party is the highest recorded in the municipality since democracy was restored after the end of General Franco’s regime, and the PP were favoured by almost two thirds of those casting a vote in the 68.3 per cent turnout.
