November 16 to 24 Gastronomic mushroom weekends in Cehegin
At least 600 kinds of mushroom can be found in the mountains around Cehegín!
The recent rain on the higher ground and woodland in the north-west of Murcia has led to the emergence of countless mushrooms in the countryside, and in Cehegín this is being celebrated by a series of 4 weekend gastronomic “mycology” days on which local restaurants offer their own exclusive dishes.
The event takes place on November 16, 17, 23 and 24, and on Sunday November 24 chef David López, who runs the kitchen at the renowned Murcia restaurant “Local de Ensayo”, is leading a mushroom-tasting workshop in the Escuela del Vino at 12.00 midday. Registration costs just 5 euros and can be completed by telephone on 685 096958 or via the local tourist office (see contact form here).
According to the esteemed Fungus Atlas of the Region of Murcia, published in 2019, the mountains around Cehegín and Caravaca de la Cruz are home to at least 600 species of mushroom, making it a great local cooking resource when weather conditions are favourable.
