Almoradí knife attack suspect caught in Orihuela Costa
Off-duty Guardia Civil officer caught the man and a second suspect was detained for allegedly supplying the weapon
The Guardia Civil have arrested two men for alleged involvement in a knife attack that took place in Almoradí town centre on September 15.
A 19-year-old man was stabbed in the street and suffered significant injuries, which required him to be rushed to hospital and admitted for several days.
The aggressor ran away afterwards and witnesses were shocked by how violent the attack had been in such a public place.
The investigation found that the attack seemed to be a settling of scores between the suspect, who is 38 years old, and the victim, both of whom had previous police records.
The alleged assailant was caught on September 23 by an off-duty Guardia Civil officer based in Almoradí, who recognised him in Orihuela Costa and restrained him until a patrol arrived and made the arrest.
Following the arrest, investigating officers identified a second suspect, aged 25, who had allegedly supplied the knife used in the attack and was arrested later in Almoradí.
The two detained men have been handed over to an investigating court in Orihuela, which ordered them to be jailed on remand.
The victim, once he was out of danger after several days in hospital, was discharged and able to return home, where he is still recovering.
The Guardia Civl are continuing their enquiries to determine what motivated the attack.
