Still hot, but a hint of change: Alicante weather forecast July 16-19
Heat warnings continue through Friday before temperatures ease slightly at the weekend, with the chance of inland thunderstorms on Sunday
This week saw temperatures pushing 40°C across inland areas and heat alerts covering much of the province of Alicante. This weekend opens in much the same vein, with warnings still in place on Thursday and Friday, though there will be a modest dip and, by Sunday, the first hint of stormy weather developing inland. Let's take a look at what we can expect over the coming days.Thursday July 16
Alicante maximum temperatures, Thursday July 16Heat warnings are in place across the province to start the weekend. Skies are partly cloudy and there's a chance of reduced visibility at higher elevations due to suspended dust, so those heading up towards Alcoy should bear that in mind. Temperatures are broadly unchanged, with Alcoy still sitting at a sweltering 39°C and Elche at 38°C. Winds are light and variable, turning easterly around midday with moderate intervals along the coast and pre-coastal areas.
Friday July 17
Alicante temperatures, Friday July 17Another hot one. Skies are partly cloudy or clear, and warnings remain active, with Elche reaching 40°C and Orihuela Costa pushing to 41°C. For those on the Costa Blanca, the easterly sea breeze picks up during the middle of the day and brings some relief along the shoreline, but it's still very much a stay-in-the-shade kind of afternoon. Winds are light and predominantly easterly, with moderate intervals along the coast.
Saturday July 18
Alicante temperatures, Saturday July 18A slight shift. High cloud drifts in during the day, and maximum temperatures begin to ease, noticeably so along the central coast. Benidorm and Alicante city will feel the difference, though it's still firmly mid-thirties across most of the province. Dénia, up in the north, follows a similar pattern. Winds stay light and variable, shifting easterly through the middle of the day with occasional moderate gusts.
Sunday July 19
Alicante temperatures, Sunday July 19The most interesting day of the period. Partly cloudy skies give way to increasing cloud inland during the afternoon, and isolated thunderstorms are possible away from the coast. There's also a chance of reduced visibility in higher areas due to dust. Torrevieja and Cabo Roig stay largely dry, as do most coastal spots, but if you're heading inland it's worth keeping an eye on the sky. Temperatures hold steady. Winds are light and variable, turning westerly with moderate gusts in the afternoon.
The heat will start to loosen its grip, just a little. Sunday's storms won't break the spell entirely, but they do signal that the relentless settled pattern of the past week or two may finally be starting to shift.
