Sports overview La Manga Club
Football, cricket, golf and tennis are the core activities
The keystones to La Manga Club’s success are many, but one of the most important is certainly the excellence and abundance of the sporting facilities on offer.
The most famous of these are probably the three championship golf courses, but the football centre has also attracted some of the best-known teams in the world, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Chelsea and the Spanish and English national squads. The football centre also serves for other sports such as rugby, hockey and cricket: among the coaches running cricket schools here has been renowned fast bowling coach Ian Pont.
The Tennis Centre is also extremely well equipped, with the 28 courts hosting numerous European Seniors events. Within the Tennis Centre there are also squash and paddle-tennis courts as well as a gym, a bowling green and an open-air swimming-pool.
There is also a 25-metre 6-lane indoor pool in the Spa Centre of Las Lomas Village, and more leisurely swimmers will enjoy the small cove of Cala del Barco, which can be accessed by land only through the area occupied by La Manga Club.
Walking, running and road and mountain biking are also available, with information and suggestions supplied by the Independent Activity Centre in the resort, and there is a diving centre in Las Lomas.
Such is the overall excellence of the sports facilities that among the ambassadors of La Manga Club are many well-known current and former top sportsmen and women, including Kenny Dalglish, Gordon Strachan, Mike Gatting, Rachel Heyhoe-Flint, Elena Baltacha, Andrew Castle and Alex Corretja.
