These are the autumn race dates for sailing in the Mar Menor

The Sailing Association of the Mar Menor (SAMM) has revealed the dates for its Autumn Race Series for anyone who is interested to put in their diary.

SAMM is a group that meets to practise sailing on the Mar Menor, and there are races on Wednesdays and Sundays.

The Autumn 2023 race schedule is as follows:

According to SAMM organisers, “The missing dates at the end of September are due to other events being held at CAR. We may be notified of others as the season progresses.”

The current usual format of race days is a 10am arrival time, with the first race beginning at approximately 11.15am. The entrance fee is around 6 euros.

SAMM: Sailing on the Mar Menor

The Sailing Association Mar Menor (SAMM) was formed in January 2006, and its purpose is to help solve problems experienced in keeping and sailing boats in the Mar Menor and Mediterranean as well as offer a means of sharing the pleasure of sailing with like-minded individuals.

The membership has now passed 135. Non members of all nationalities are welcome to attend to learn more about us and join if you wish. We normally have a guest speaker of the month on different topics of interest to sailors.

During 2007 SAMM obtained formal registration as a Sports & Cultural Association with the Region of Murcia.
SAMM comprises a number of groups that cater for different classes of sailing boats. There are groups for larger cruising yachts, dinghy sailors, boat share groups, one metre remote control boats, catamarans and training groups for improving your sailing skills or learning from scratch and a boat repair group including canvas work, moorings and storage. In 2009 we established a Sailability group equipped with special boats designed to take one disabled person accompanied by an able-bodied person. They are working with the UK Disabled Sailing Association and Fundación También, their Spanish equivalent, on this venture.

Longer sailing trips are envisaged throughout the summer such as a flotilla cruise to the Balearics and weekend Boat Owners Group trips along the Mediterranean coast. Motor boats are also represented within the membership.

A boat storage area south of Los Alcazares and close to the Mar Menor with a launching site is available. Small boat repairs are also undertaken within the boat park.

Social events are organised for members and partners and all are welcome. Trips are also available to local places of interest.

SAMM welcomes new members, both Spanish residents and local holiday home owners. You will be made very welcome. Alternatively, if you want to join, contact the SAMM Secretary regarding membership.

Current single membership is 30 Euros and a family membership is 45 Euros

SAMM Meet every Wednesday at 11am until 1pm at the small pier on the north end of the beach at Camping Mar Menor, which is the site next to San Javier Airport

Racing is every Friday at 2pm until 4pm, at the small pier on the north end of the beach at Camping Mar Menor.
