November dramatized weekend tours of Cehegín
El Sueño del Fraile explores the origins of the worship of the Virgen de las Maravillas in Cehegín
The Tourism department of the Town Hall of Cehegín has organized a series of 8 dramatized tours of the old town on Fridays and Saturdays in November, starting at the historic Convento de San Esteban and allowing those joining the event to explore parts of the building which are not usually open to the public.
The topic of the dramatized action is one of the most extraordinary events in the history of Cehegín: the origins of the cult of the Virgen de las Maravillas, the most widely revered religious figure in the town, and it highlights the local culture and faith – in short, the identity of Cehegín and its natives.
(This takes us back to the early 18th century, and the events which occurred at the time are described here).
On each of the 8 occasions the tour starts at 20.30 although those taking part are advised to arrive 15 minutes beforehand. Registration is available online here at a cost of 10 euros.
