MiniHollywood in Tabernas set for €20 million transformation into a year round destination
A five year plan will add a western themed hotel, expanded animal reserve, new attractions and events spaces to the Almería theme park
The Western style theme park Oasys MiniHollywood in the Tabernas Desert is preparing for the biggest overhaul in its history, with its owner, the Senator group, planning to invest around €20 million by 2031.
The project, laid out in the “Master Plan 2026-2031”, aims to reshape the park into a wider, more varied destination that combines film themed attractions, family entertainment and nature, rather than just classic rides and the main zoo area.
The first visible changes are expected in 2026, with enhanced exhibits and new attractions linked to the Wild West and the cinema. A new museum, unofficially known by the park team as the “Frontier Armory”, will focus on the history of Western weapons, displaying dozens of guns and other historic pieces.
The stagecoach stop is also being preserved and restyled, and film related props, such as the lion sphinx used in the movie The Road to Bethlehem, will be added to give visitors a stronger sense of the park’s long standing role in Spanish language cinema.
In 2027, work will move into the animal reserve, with a new area called “Giant Meadow” opening to house giraffes and antelopes and allow them more space than before. A new café, the Savannah Café, is scheduled to open the same year, giving guests a relaxed spot to eat with views over the enclosures.
The plan continues in 2028 with a children’s multi adventure park and the launch of the Hollywood Hotel, a western themed base with a suite overlooking the tiger area and rooms that echo the film set atmosphere of the park.
Further growth is planned for the following years. In 2029, the park intends to open a large souvenir shop, the “Yucca Town Hall” event space with room for up to 600 guests, and an expanded lion area known as the “Sabana del Rey.”
Between 2030 and 2031, the project will add a Safari Lodge restaurant, views over African style wildlife, an equestrian club, a dedicated motorhome area, a suspension bridge and a new Mexican style village with food and live entertainment.
The investment underlines that MiniHollywood is not just a throwback to the classic “Spaghetti Western” era, but a living, evolving project. As Senator Hotels & Resorts CEO José María Rossell recently put it, the zoological reserve is “our pride and joy, and a project that allows us to break away from the hotel industry” and show what a wider leisure tourism offering can look like.
The park is already one of the main tourist attractions in the south east of Spain, and this expansion is expected to draw more visitors not only from Almería but from across Spain and beyond.
