ARCHIVED - Mazarron receives Quality and Sustainability awards for numerous beaches
Mazarrón Council receive the "Q" for 7 beaches in the municipality and the "S" for 11
The Mayor of Mazarrón and the Councillor for Tourism have collected the “Q for tourism quality” and “S for tourism sustainability” awards for 2023 from the Ministry of the Presidency, Tourism, Culture, Sports and the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality.
The Mazarrón Town Hall received the “Q for Tourist Quality” recognition for 7 certified beaches, which are: Playa de Bahía, Playa Junta de dos Mares (Reya), Playa de Nares, Playa de Bolnuevo, Playa Las Moreras (Canina), Playa Rihuete and Playa el Castellar. The Council’s department of Tourism and Coastal Services is working and coordinating on this project with the involvement of different services with the aim of continuous improvement in accessibility to beaches, maintenance and cleaning, rescue services and the routine of carrying out analysis of beaches including sand, footbaths and seasonal facilities. It is worth noting Las Moreras dog-friendly beach, which also holds this certificate, is the first of its kind to obtain this award in Spain.
Regarding the "S for Sustainability" program, the certification was introduced in July 2022 and goes a step further in the policy of improving the beaches of Mazarrón. This program includes 11 beaches (Mojón, Alamillo, Rihuete, Puerto, La Isla, Bahía, Reya, Nares, Castellar, Moreras and Bolnuevo) and focuses its efforts on the challenges set by the United Nations in the Sustainable Development Goals and in the Agenda 20-30 of the Government of Spain.
After an analysis of the national government’s policy and the skills set of Mazarrón Town Hall it was decided to pursue 4 Sustainable Development Goals (ODs), which are: number 9: Industry and Infrastructure Innovation; No. 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; No 14: Underwater Life and No15: Life of Terrestrial Ecosystems.
