May 4 Playas de Mazarron mountain rally race on the RM-332 to Cartagena
The road closes for spectacular racing on the winding curves out of Puerto de Mazarrón and into the mountains
The Playas de Mazarrón rally is the longest-standing such fixture on the sporting calendar of the Region of Murcia, and it returns this year on Saturday 4th May for its 41st edition.
Racing takes place on the RM-332 inland road which runs between Puerto de Mazarrón and Cartagena, more specifically the stretch which rises up from El Alamillo on the way to Tallante, and this latest event is the first in this year’s regional rallying championship. Unfortunately, it dies mean that this part of the RM-332 being closed for much of the day, but for most people the inconvenience is outweighed by the chance to see some incredible racing on roads which most of us have driven on!
The event begins at the Cafetería Buenavista opposite the beach of El Alamillo with technical verifications between 8.15 and 11.00 before the cars set out and the road is closed to normal traffic at 12.00. Practice runs begin at 13.30 before the actual two-leg race, and it is anticipated that the road will reopen at 18.00 before trophies are awarded at 19.00 back at the Buenavista.
