Man jailed after alleged sexual assault on 16-year-old in Malaga hostel

37-year-old arrested for reportedly groping intoxicated girl on New Year’s Eve in city centre

A 37-year-old man has been arrested by the Policía Nacional, following his alleged involvement in the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl at a hostel in Málaga on New Year’s Eve.

Police say the victim, who was staying in the hostel with her family, had been drinking when the incident occurred. The man reportedly took advantage of her intoxication to approach her in a shared bathroom area outside the rooms and touch her intimate areas without consent. Court documents confirm there was no penetration.

The Court for Violence Against Women No. 2 in Malaga has ordered the man’s provisional detention without bail. To protect the young victim, a pre-trial deposition was held, allowing her to recount the events in detail without appearing in person at the forthcoming trial.

The hostel receptionist raised the alarm, allowing officers from the Brigada de Seguridad Ciudadana (Citizen Security Brigade) to respond immediately. Police quickly identified the suspect, preventing any risk of escape. “The rapid coordination between the hostel staff and the Security Forces was crucial in securing the alleged perpetrator immediately,” a police source said.

Both the victim and the accused are foreign nationals. Police say the hostel’s shared bathroom layout, outside the rooms, was exploited by the man to carry out the assault.

Police emphasised the importance of swift response. “Immediate intervention and protection of the victim was our priority,” a spokesperson said.
