La Manga Club wins Best Sports Resort award
The Club is going from strength to strength, winning many awards for its sports facilities
The Grand Hyatt La Manga Club Golf & Spa has won the Best Sports Resort in Spain award at the World Travel Awards 2024, the fourth time that the complex – located in the Los Belones district of
Cartagena, near La Manga del Mar Menor and surrounded by the Calblanque natural park – has received this award.
This is one of the highest international distinctions awarded for excellence in the hotel sector, and once again it went to La Manga Club for “its complete and exclusive sports offer in the south of Europe”, linked especially to golf but also to other sports such as football and tennis.
La Manga Club, which has a five-star hotel, has always been linked to the world of sport since its foundation in 1972 and even back then it was a pioneering resort in Spain for being dedicated almost exclusively to golf. It has three golf courses – the North course, the South course and the West course,
the last two of which place in the Top 50 golf courses in Spain.
These facilities operate a golf academy for both adults and children, and are complemented by a large practice area and other exclusive services such as the Club House, a restaurant and commercial area.
There are also eight football pitches, including the José María Ferrer Sports City of the Cartagena Football Club, and The Racquets Club tennis centre, which has 28 tennis courts, as well as seven paddle tennis courts, a Pickleball court and a top-of-the-range gym.
Throughout the resort’s more than 50-year history, it has hosted numerous prestigious sporting events such as the Davis Cup and Federation Cup tennis tournaments, as well as a number of golf and football tournaments.
The gala ceremony of the 31st edition of the World Travel Awards took place in Berlin, Germany, and after the ceremony Ángel Holgado, director of the Grand Hyatt La Manga Club Golf & Spa, said that “to receive recognition of this magnitude in the most prestigious international awards of the sector and, moreover, in this first year of reopening of the first Grand Hyatt in Spain is a source of immense pride and drives us to continue improving our offer and offer the best experience to all guests who enjoy the sports and leisure facilities of the hotel”.
The World Travel Awards, which have been held annually since 1993, recognise excellence in all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industry and are considered the Oscars of tourism.
