June 2 Bach piano recital by Andrea Turini in the latest ProMusica concert in Aguilas
The Goldberg Variations at the Auditorio Infanta Doña Elena in Águilas
The 12th concert in the 2022-23 ProMúsica cycle at the Auditorio Infanta Doña Elena on the seafront in Águilas features pianist Andrea Turini performing the Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Bach published The Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) in 1741 and the work is named after Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, who may also have been the first to perform it. On the original title page, Bach stated that it was intended for the harpsichord, but these days it is more widely performed on the piano – the modern piano was still uncommon at the time, and it is impossible to know whether the composer would have approved of this adaptation.
The concert on Friday June 2 begins at 21.00 and tickets are available at 20 euros from the Águilas archaeological museum, the Casa de la Cultura Francisco Rabal, the box office of the auditorium two hours before the curtain rises and online here.
