Heatwave catches up with the Costa Blanca: Alicante weather forecast August 11-14
Monday could be the hottest day of the summer so far, warns Aemet
A yellow warning for heat has been issued for Alicante
The heatwave that has been battering Spain since August 3 is expected to sweep across Alicante province today.
Although the highest temperatures in the Valencian Community are forecast for just inland of the coast in Valencia province, they are still set to reach “significantly elevated” minimums and maximums in Alicante, 4ºC hotter in the south of the province than it was on Sunday.
Monday, August 11
The heat index means it will feel even hotter
Today could be the hottest day of the summer so far in Alicante, even more so than June 29-30, according to State Meteorology Agency Aemet.
A yellow warning for heat has been issued for 1pm until 9pm, saying that temperatures could reach 36ºC up and down the Costa Blanca and inland, with some places inland and in the far north hitting up to 39ºC, including Orihuela city.
The light southerly breezes will make it feel even hotter, even when they get up to about 15km/h in the afternoon.
Tuesday, August 12
Temperatures will remain in the danger zone on Tuesday
The heat warning continues into tomorrow for the same times, from 1pm until 9pm, with the nights a little hotter in most areas and daytime maximum temperatures about the same as Monday.
The wind will be cooler as it will be blowing from the south-east but still only in light breezes with a few moderate gusts on the coast.
Wednesday August 13
More clouds are expected on Wednesday
The alert is over by Wednesday but it is not expected to cool down much, only by 1 or 2ºC, with the night slightly cooler too.
The skies will be cloudier, with the north of the Valencian Community facing probable showers and storms inland in the afternoon in the provinces of Valencia and Castellón, which could be quite heavy locally. However, this rain is unlikely to venture south into Alicante province.
Cooler but light easterly breezes will predominate in the central hours of the day.
Thursday, August 14
High and low temperature predictions for Thursday
There may be more stormy showers inland in Castellón province on Thursday but the skies in Alicante will be mostly clear.
Minimum temperatures should remain unchanged or drop slightly, while maximums are forecast to remain unchanged, reaching significantly high levels.
The wind is due to consist of variable light breezes, from the east in the central hours of the day.
Nevertheless, temperatures could rise again for the weekend, although it is harder to predict that far ahead.
There is “no clear end” to this episode of heat, Aemet notes.
