article_detailDate Published: 23/04/2024Cartagena invests almost 75k in accessible beach equipment
Walkways, amphibious chairs, life vests and accessible showers will all be available on Cartagena beaches this summer
On the run-up to summer, Cartagena has turned its attention to updating and improving all of the accessible equipment designed for reduced mobility bathers on its beaches. These points are equipped with amphibious chairs, shades, walkways, showers, hoists and flexible walkways, all of which tend to become worn out after a busy season. The process will consist of two separate contracts: Lot 1 focuses on woodwork supplies totalling 24,200 euros, while Lot 2 addresses assisted bathing materials costing 50,392 euros. Interested parties have been invited to submit proposals until May 6.Once the work begins, all of the equipment necessary to improve accessibility to coastal beaches will be replaced or updated. This will include five pergolas and platforms, 8 amphibious chairs, 5 walkers, 10 life vests, 3 stainless steel hoist showers and 18 concrete drainage bases for the accessible shower units. At the same time, the installation of new beach fixings has begun, which involves the installation of more canopies, walkways, foot washing areas and information signs. Four pontoons will also be erected before the summer: the one in Cavanna will be set up immediately while work on the two in Los Nietos and Playa Honda should be completed in May.The repair of the promenades in various locations is also part of the actions to be undertaken, addressing everything from beach access to the renovation of benches, bollards and tree pits. The replacement of the concrete benches on Gran Vía de La Manga with new wave-shaped white concrete models, bought in December 2023, is also planned. The City Council has also focused efforts on the supply of materials related to coastal services, including the purchase of wooden walkways and foot washing stations, and the contracting of material for assisted bathing. In addition, work is being done to comply with the requirements for the "Q" quality badges for the beaches that have already been honoured with this award.Image: Ayuntamiento de Cartagena
