Cala del Barco, the closest beach to La Manga Club
The beach at La Manga Club
Although the La Manga Club is close to the glorious beaches of the Mar Menor, it also has a secluded cove, the Cala del Barco on the Mediterranean coast just 1 kilometre from the centre of the resort.
Leaving the residential area to the south, by the Calle de la Zorrera, residents, guests and visitors can reach the Cala del Barco, a small cove totally unspoilt by any kind of tourist development, flanked by the bare mountains and steep cliffs which are typical of the coastline between Cabo de Palos and Cabo Tiñoso.
Although the cove is under a kilometre from the centre of La Manga Club as the crow flies, the road peters out into a track and a motor vehicle is strongly advised for access. A bus-taxi service runs in the summer, and the short trip is well worth the effort: the water here is clear and clean, and the bathing is excellent.
In summer La Manga Club opens a beach bar here in order to make the visit even more enjoyable, with special events lasting until the early hours of the morning and giving those present the opportunity to enjoy the balmy Mediterranean night.
Despite its beauty it is not usually overcrowded, perhaps because of its secluded location and the winding track along which it is reached. However guests should remember that all beaches in Spain are public property, and as such it is possible for anyone and everyone to descend on the cove whenever they like!
