Baby on board: Guardamar scooter rider caught towing a buggy
The offender was dragging the stroller and a toddler along a footpath in Guardamar del Segura
Hardly a day goes by without some incident on Spanish roads involving electric scooters, but some riders take recklessness to such an extreme that they still have the ability to surprise law enforcement, which is just what happened to one Local Police officer in Guardamar del Segura, Alicante, this week.
On a routine patrol, the agent spotted a man riding a scooter along the street with a buggy – complete with a young child – anchored to the back. The basket of the stroller was filled with shopping and a flower pot was sticking out of one side.
Following this unbelievable incident, the Guardamar Local Police took the opportunity to remind all road users that "vehicles cannot undergo reforms that alter their nature, and an electric scooter cannot have more than two wheels nor be used by more than one person."
Electric scooters shouldn't actually be modified in any way and misusing them, like in this case, carries steep fines.
These personal mobility vehicles are becoming more and more common on Spanish streets, particularly in tourist areas, and while they're a great alternative to cars and a friend to the environment, it's fair to say that feelings about them are mixed.
This is largely because many riders still fail to adhere to the rules of the road, becoming a menace to other drivers and pedestrians.
