Andalucía's airports are having a record-breaking summer and the numbers are remarkable
Málaga handled more than 13 million passengers in the first half of the year while Seville recorded its best ever June, with both airports growing far faster than the national average
If it feels like the airports in Andalucía are busier than ever this summer, that is because they genuinely are. New figures from Aena confirm that both Málaga and Seville closed the first half of 2026 in outstanding shape, with passenger numbers climbing well ahead of the national average and several records broken along the way.
Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport handled 13,226,525 passengers across 91,388 flights between January and June, almost a million more than in the same period last year and a 6.7% increase year on year. To put that in context, airports across the wider Aena network in Spain grew by 3.7% in the same period. Málaga is growing at nearly double the national rate.
June alone was extraordinary. The airport served 2,771,417 passengers last month, up 5.3% on June 2025, and on two days, Friday June 26 and Sunday June 28, it passed 100,000 passengers in a single day for the first time in its history.
British travellers continue to drive international demand. The UK was the single largest market in the first half of the year, with 2,936,508 passengers, comfortably ahead of Germany in second place with 995,389.
Seville tells an equally impressive story. San Pablo Airport closed June with 886,407 passengers, the highest figure ever recorded for that month and an 11.7% increase on the previous year.
International routes were the main driver, growing by 15.8% and now accounting for more than half of all commercial passengers for the first time. Italy was the leading international market with 107,036 passengers, followed by France and the United Kingdom.
Some of the growth figures for individual routes are striking: flights to Poland were up 60.6%, Greece up 45.1% and Italy up 44.5% compared to June last year.
In the first six months of 2026, Seville handled 5,270,521 passengers in total, up 9.8% on the same period last year, growing at nearly three times the national average rate.
The picture across both airports reflects a broader trend: Andalucía is firmly established as one of the most visited regions in Europe, with demand showing no signs of softening as the peak summer weeks get underway.
